Classroom Updates

A few bits of information:

1:   Case 21 testing is the week of March 24th:  

Monday, 3/24        Science - 5th grade only

Tuesday, 3/25       Reading - 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th grades

Wednesday, 3/26   Math - 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th grades

Please be sure your child is at school ON TIME, well rested & tummy full with a healthy breakfast.  We will begin testing promptly at 9:20.

2:   Thursday, March 27 is our Wilmington field trip.  While this is a new field trip here at Forest Pines, this will be my 4th year taking my students on this trip. At my old school this trip was a highlight of the year for my students.  This was a tradition for 4th graders & the lower grades looked forward to going to the Battleship & aquarium when they were in 4th grade.  I hope this can become the same type of tradition here at Forest Pines.

BUSES will be leaving PROMPTLY at 7 am on 3/27.  We cannot wait for students who are late.  BE SURE TO BE ON TIME.  

3: Math Madness Night - Thursday, 3/20.  I hope you will join in on the math festivities.  Math activities for all grade levels will be shared.  The goal is to for parents learn additional ways to help their students at home with Common Core math.  There will be hands on activities, games, etc.  In 4th & 5th grade we will be sharing resources to video links on how we teach Common Core math.

4: Spring Break Saturday, 3/29 - Sunday, April 6

That's a lot of information.  I will be sending reminders about all of the above via Remind101 as each date gets closer.  

Wilmington Field Trip

On Wednesday, April 17th the 4th grade will be traveling to Wilmington, NC and tour two of North Carolina's most intersting & educational attractions, the Battleship North Carolina & the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. Students received an information packet on Monday, March 25th which is due back on Wednesday, March 27th.  The homeroom with the most packets returned on Wednesday will get to pick from a prize box. 

If your child will be buying lunch, please include $4 with the forms.  Lunch will include: peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, chips & a water. 

We will be leaving Hunter promptly at 7:00 am (be here at 6:45 am) and returning to the back bus loop at 5:45 pm.

Please let us know (if you have not done so already), if you are interested in chaperoning this fun day (you must have previously been cleared by WCPSS).

Hunter Elementary to Wilmington Area Sites

6:40 a.m.         Teachers arrive

6:50 a.m.         Students/Parents/Chaperones check-in with your child’s homeroom teacher at the back bus loop for seating and small group assignments.

7:00 a.m.         Depart Hunter in buses and cars for Battleship North Carolina

SHARP

9:30 a.m.         Buses arrive at battleship.  Students depart bus and tour battleship for 2 hours in small group.

11:30 a.m.       Depart battleship for lunch

11:30 – 12:00 Lunch in park area off battleship

                        Remember to pick up all trash before boarding buses

12:00 -12:15    Load buses to leave for ferry

12:15 p.m.       Travel to Southport ferry terminal

12:45 a.m.       Buses should immediately check in at terminal for 1:00 ferry. Each car must check in separately and pay $5.00 fee per car (they only take cash).  30 minute ferry boat ride to Fort Fisher, along Cape Fear River.

NOTE:            Everyone may get off bus and walk around on ferry deck. Wait until Captain blows horn to signal when you may leave your vehicle and walk around. There will be an announcement on the loudspeaker when it is time to return to vehicles. Restrooms are available on the ferry.

1:30 p.m.         Travel to aquarium

1:45 p.m.         Self-guided tour of North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. Tour Aquarium in small groups. Tour inside first; go outside only if time permits. We must be back at buses by 3:15 pm.

3:15 p.m.         Load buses

3:30 p.m.         Buses and cars depart for Hunter

5:45 p.m.         Buses arrive at Hunter in back bus loop

SHARP
